Day One

Day One: Matthew 1 -
As you read today think about what insights did
Matthew offer to the life of Jesus that you had not noticed before this reading?

Matthew 1: genealogies can be boring... this one is fascinating: some of the people mentioned in the genealogy are liars, cheaters, prostitutes, adulterers, and so on. This is the lineage Christ came into and the people that he came for.

Matthew 1: "God with us"...Amen.

Matthew 2: the Magi went to Christ to worship Him!

Matthew 3: John the Baptist prepared the way for Christ, How are you preparing the way for the risen Christ in peoples lives?

more to come soon....

READ THRU IN 30: Day 1

The Heart of these 30 days:
Please understand the heart of why we are doing this. We are not reading through the New Testament in 30 days so we can all receive spiritual merit badges or feel better about ourselves as Christians. This is only a tool to help us to know our heavenly Father better. We are not legalistic about reading everyday, however we do want to be more disclipined. Use this time as a way to grow closer to Christ, if you miss Day it is ok. Built in to the schedule are 'grace days' to help you catch up. If you get really far behind, it is ok. Keep reading. Keep seeking His presence in your life. Be encouraged, God wants to communicate with you.

Lets dig for God's presence together!

Writing God Off

07.31.08

First I can't believe August is around the corner...Crazy! I am getting really excited about the thought of school starting again at ODU and students being back. This summer I have been attending Freshman Previews on campus to meet incoming freshman students. It has been a great time to meet some of the students who are going to be at ODU this fall.

So today I show up at a Preview and notice that this preview was going to have about a quarter of the students from the previous 12 previews this summer. When I found that out, I was very tempted to just leave with my brown box of flyers and give-a-way items. I thought "am I just wasting my time today?, This will most likely be pointless". I was looking at the things on the surface and making judgments about if it was worth wild.

I decided to stay (to be honest, mainly because another campus minister saw me carrying my brown box and he started talking to me. How could I leave after I had been spotted?)

The Preview tuned out to be the best one yet that I have attended. I had more meaningful conversations with students and parents then ever before. If any of the students I met today ever read this, thanks for making this Preview Great! I was reminded never to "write God off". When things seem ordinary or bad in human eyes, I need to be looking for God at the most unexpected times and not write Him off.
